I had a wonderful time at the Toronto Live Model Horse Show, May 3. I used to be a Breyer horse dealer, many years ago, and have always liked model horses. I'm going to BreyerFest in Kentucky this year for the first time, and thought maybe it would be fun to show a horse there, so I got out my art supplies, and started making some "painted ponies". These are custom model horses, some have added manes, or altered parts, but most generally, they are repainted using fine art techniques, mostly pastels.
I was most surprised and pleased that my models did so well at the Live show here in Ontario. This was my first time ever showing model horses. I showed my own real horses for 20 years previously.
My curio sized buckskin Andalusian, named Esplendido won Champion in the Custom Breeds division, with my traditional size reverse dapple bay roan Gypsy Vanner, called Challenger, won the Reserve Champion in the same division!
Esplendido went on to win Reserve Champion in the Workmanship division. My other models won 6 firsts and 3 seconds along with numerous other placings.
